I bought my first new truck in 1997; it was a 1998 Toyota Tacoma. I was so happy to have a new vehicle, and I wanted to keep it up and keep it running forever. This is where my quest to find a great repair shop came about.
I tried the dealers and independent shops. But none of them really wowed me at the time. You see, I was looking for four things:
1. Great work from the mechanic.
2. Great customer service.
3. Fast turnaround.
4. Good pricing (not just a cheap price because I know cheap means cutting corners and using poorly made parts, but fair and competitive pricing).
Every shop that I went to was missing at least two of those four things. You’d get fast turnaround, but the automotive service and repairs would be sloppy—causing me to have to go back and spend even more money. Or you would get bad customer service, and it would take forever to get your car back.
What happened next was unbelievable: my neighbor knocked on my door one day and said the shop that he had been working at was going up for sale. I had been there; the mechanics had provided quality automotive services, and they were trustworthy in their repairs. Long story short, me and the prior owner made a deal, and he sold me the shop.
For almost 10 years, I had been looking for a great automotive repair shop. This was my opportunity to give Martinsville, Collinsville, and Henry County, VA the great shop that I had been looking for.
I was no mechanic at the time, nor a business owner. Knowing the four things that really matter to the customer is what has led Auto Tech to be so successful since first opening our doors in 2006. Great work from the mechanic, great customer service, fast turnaround, and good pricing.
